Mardi Gras Swingers
Experience:
Dates: February 14th - 21st,
2007
Web: http://www.mardigrasswingers.com/home.html
Information: New Orleans
is known for the biggest, wildest and best party in
the country, Mardi Gras! Years ago, friends of ours
that live in New Orleans invited us to Mardi Gras. We
live in Las Vegas and New Orleans put Las Vegas to shame.
Vegas does not deserve to be called "Sin City!" New
Orleans wins the title hands down.
Once you experience
Mardi Gras you will do as we have and return year after
year. Each year we invite more of our Lifestyle friends
to party with us during Mardi Gras. The group has grown
and more return each year. For 2007 we have taken over
an entire hotel.
Sixty Six

wildest party of the year! Centrally located in the
heart of the French Quarter, this historic hotel was
remodeled three years ago and offers the elegance and
charm of a fine French Quarter residence just 1/2 block
from Bourbon Street. Michael and Vicki visited New Orleans
on May 12 and 13, 2006 to give us a update on New Orleans.

Mardi Gras
Survival Guide Wear comfortable walking shoes. Open-toed
shoes and high heels are definitely not recommended!
You will spend a lot of time walking and standing while
out and about in the French Quarter. DO NOT wear your
new $120 sneakers--they will age three years in three
days! Bring the old, beat-up pair that you wear to do
yard work--your shoes will be covered with funk and
will smell to high heaven by the end of the week--trust
us on this one! We usually throw our sneakers in the
trash can at the end of the week when we are packing
to go home! It's easier to sacrifice an old pair of
shoes than it is to have them get everything else in
our luggage dirty and stinky. Mardi Gras is a seven
day party. Pace yourself! Try to take it a bit easy
and get plenty of rest during the beginning of the week.
From Friday on through Tuesday the French Quarter will
be an around the clock non-stop party! There is alcohol
everywhere in the French Quarter.
There are
beer stands every 10 feet and daiquiri shops on every
corner. We are all at this party to have fun, but be
careful not to overdo it! Mardi Gras is not nearly as
much fun if you spend it passed out, puking or having
hangover that lasts all day. Public Restrooms are hard
to come by in the French Quarter during Mardi Gras.
Many businesses reserve their restrooms for customers
only (yes, they often require that you show a receipt
before you can go in!). Many other places actually charge
people to use their facilities. Remember that the amount
of alcohol you consume is directly correlated with the
number of times you must relieve yourself! :)
DO NOT pee
on the street!
This is the
quickest way to end up in jail for the duration of your
stay in New Orleans! The New Orleans Police are known
for being the very best in the world when it comes to
crowd-control. Respect them and listen to them if they
ask you to do or stop doing something. Keep in mind
that the court system is CLOSED during Mardi Gras. If
you get arrested, you are in jail until your case is
heard somewhere around the Thursday after Fat Tuesday!
Staying out of jail is not hard, just use common sense.
Things that
can get you instantly locked up are: " Urinating in
public. " Flashing a penis anywhere on the street or
balcony. " Engaging in sexual activity in public. "
Carrying any glass container on Bourbon Street " Smoking
pot in public. " Fighting, even if you are defending
yourself - it does not matter - you're going to jail.
"
Causing any
type of mass disturbance that can provoke a crowd to
flee or fight. Be aware that along with the mass crowds
of partiers, Mardi Gras also has its share of pick-pockets
and thieves. Leave your expensive jewelry at home or
in your hotel room! Ladies, don't even think about trying
to carry a purse! Keep your money and your ID in your
front pockets. Use a fanny pack and keep it towards
the front part of your body. After dark, travel in groups
and stick with the crowds. Stick to the busier streets.
In all the years that we have attended Mardi Gras we
have never had a problem, but why invite trouble? Parking
is a rare thing in the French Quarter.
What little
parking there is available is usually quite expensive.
Don't bother renting a car at the airport, you wont
need it! Everything you could possibly want or need
is within walking distance of the hotel. The weather
in New Orleans during Mardi Gras can change completely
in a matter of hours. Lows can run as low as the 40s
and highs up to the 80s, but usually the temperatures
fall somewhere in between. Be prepared, pack for both
warm and cool weather. If you don't like the weather,
wait a couple of hours. It is always changing in New
Orleans!
